Oh hooray!

Today, I went to my mailbox and discovered this:

I didn't see the front of the card, I only saw the writing on the back. I figured it was maybe a postcard from a friend in Sweden. However, it was my very first postcard from our project! After squealing like a little girl right in the middle of the post office, I ran out to call Heather. She shared my excitement and said she was a little jealous.

I don't know if the sender of this postcard is reading this, but THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! You totally made my day!

We were starting to lose hope, but after this, the hope is alive again!

I look forward to reading your stories.

Where oh where?

Where oh where are our postcards? Heather and I are sad that we haven't received anything yet. :( Maybe people overlooked that part about sending us postcards.

And so, we sat and we shall wait...

Here I go!!!

Wow!!! The wonderful world of blogging at my finger tips!! This is scary! I have never blogged before! My bestest friend in the whole world, that would be Brandy, has finally convinced me to blog. She always said she'd get me to do this someday! Well, here I go!!

So, on October 15th, Brandy and I sent out our travel journals! As you probably read on Brandy's blog, we got the idea from a 3rd grade school project. I received the travel journal in the mail and was so intrigued by it! They asked us to write about the town we lived in. I spent 2 days on the internet researching about La Porte, IN!! I thought it was the coolest project and wanted my contribution to be perfect! I decided to send it on to Brandy in AZ...I knew she would think it was really cool too. I was thinking to myself...Man, it would be so neat to send one of my own out and see what happens! A few days later Brandy and I were talking about it on the phone and she said, "Wouldn't it be neat if we sent one out??" So here we are. Of course Brandy had the great idea of blogging about it! When someone receives the journal, they are supposed to send a postcard to us...either Brandy's address or my address, which ever journal they recieve. When we start getting postcards we will blog about them and keep track of where the journals end up. I can't wait to see the end results and read everyone's entries! I'm hoping to get a postcard soon from Lisa in FL. She's the first person to get the journal. I choose her because she is interesting and knows a lot of people around the country.

By the way, ask Brandy how this project got it's name!!

The starting of the project

We (being Heather and I) are starting a project called the Garfield Odie Project. The project started because Heather's little cousin was doing a travel journal with his school. The purpose of the journal for him was to send it to someone he knew, they were to write something about their city and forward the journal on to someone else. To let the kids know that the journal has been received, we are to send a postcard addressed to him at his school.

Heather and I decided it would be fun to do a journal as well. Here is a copy of what I put in my journal:

Hello there! This journal is part of a project called the Garfield Odie Project. My friend, Heather, and I received a travel journal from an elementary school and we thought it would be fun to do a travel journal as well. My friend and I are both sending out a journal to a person we know. The instructions are easy and are listed below. Happy writing! Thank you in advance for participating in this journal. We are doing a blog with this project, you can follow us at http://www.garfieldodieproject.blogspot.com/ Please know that your stories may be mentioned. However, no names will be used.

  1. When you receive the journal, we ask that you write about something going on in your life currently. It can be good, bad, or indifferent. :) It doesn't matter. Write about whatever you want.
  2. When you are done with the journal, drop it in the mail to someone you know in another state or even out of the country. It might be best to ask them first about sending them the journal.
  3. In order to track where our journals have been, drop us a postcard in the mail from the state where you live. Heather and I both love mail and would thoroughly enjoy getting postcards from you!
  4. The instructions start all over again for the next person, and so on...
  5. We are doing this project for a year, so till October 15, 2010. If you get this journal and it's a.) full OR b.) close to October 15th of 2010, send the journal back to me. My address is listed below.

That's it. It's really simple and Heather and I are excited about what the journal adventure may bring. Here some pictures of my journal. Heather might post hers, she's has yet to get into the world of blogging, so you'll be hearing from me a lot. :)
